Individual Qualifications
Why do you want to become a member of the WISPA Board of Directors and what do you hope to achieve through your leadership experience? I have been a board member in good standing since the creation of WISPA and have been heavily involved in the development of all functions of the organization. I have served on several committees and spoken before members of Congress, the FCC, State of Illinois, etc. concerning WISPA related issues. I hope to maintain a positive growth of membership, revenues and most importantly in developing policy which aids WISPs in their desire to serve the broadband needs of their customers and earn a living.

Please describe your experience and current involvement with WISPA, including participating on WISPA committees. I was the founder of the 700 MHz Committee which sprang into action in short order to quickly answer the call for input from our industry about how best to handle the auction of 700 MHz spectrum. This committee raised over $13K in cash over and above the standard revenues of WISPA in order to quickly pay for professionally created comments and host a meeting in D.C. with the FCC. I interfaced with legal counsel, membership and the FCC to see we had a streamlined and unified message to deliver. We asked for and weighed in all interested members of WISPA in development of our strategy. I have worked with members of WISPA, our board and my staff at MVN to see that the operations of WISPA are handled cost effectively and with as little overhead as possible. This has helped our organization to begin building funds needed to expand to a higher level of professional organization, structure and eventually to a higher yielding of policy results for our membership.

Please explain strengths that you possess that would be of particular benefit to WISPA through your service on the board (e.g. leadership, areas of specialty, industry relations, etc.) I have developed a relationship with hundreds of people over the years in this industry. I have portrayed myself, as a WISPA member, in a positive light. I have built a reputation for delivering results with a high level of integrity. I have shown the industry that I am a true advocate for our needs as WISPs. This has built a wealth of networking opportunities and goodwill which I use to better our industry.

Please describe any current or previous leadership experience with non-profit organizations and your role: I helped found WISPA as a 501c6 trade association. I have also helped found a 501c3 charitable organization known as Granada Center for the Performing Arts. Both organizations have prospered under my leadership.

In your view, what are the biggest challenges facing the wireless internet industry, and how do you believe WISPA should address them? I believe WISPA should make sure 100% of our climbers have completed industry recognized tower climbing certification courses and use and follow every guideline taught. This would prevent the needless deaths we see in tower related work every year. I believe WISPA should work with the 802.22 working group over the next year to make sure it is the recognized standard to be used on all TV Whitespaces devices which are used to deliver broadband over those frequencies after the DTV transition in Feb of '09.
